GBSF 4340 Machine Room maintenance

Facilities is planning to complete the maintenance work previously interrupted by complications that arose from both COVID and the wildfires. We have upgrades scheduled to be done on the server room's cooling system during the week of December 14th. This will be a complete, environment-wide shutdown. We will be engaging in comprehensive rejuvenation of the cooling systems and performing numerous diagnostics and stress tests to ensure reliability and to optimize our energy efficiency. As before, we have configured effective downtime during that window for the computing resources which will prevent any jobs from being run whose requested time limit exceeds the start time of the shutdown window, which is midnight, Friday morning, December 11th 12:00AM (Pacific Time). All of these jobs will still be queued and will be processed when services are restored. Any jobs that are already running that have not completed will be terminated when the resources are powered off, and we will work with those researchers to get those jobs running again when services are restored.

The shutdown window is scheduled for:

Friday December 11th, 12:00AM Pacific Time

until

Monday December 21st, 12:00AM Pacific Time

We will do our best to bring everything back into service as quickly as possible, hopefully multiple days before the end of the scheduled window. The queue should not be lost or reset, and will pick up when services are restored. For any questions, please email sysadmin@genomecenter.ucdavis.edu

Thank you,
